Create Out Loud #5: Static Travelling with Carlo van de Weijer

All through their evolution, Homo Sapiens’ mobility has been surprisingly consistent: on average we spend just over an hour a day moving around. Long ago that amounted to about 10,000 steps, but present-day Europeans walk, cycle, drive and fly an average 100 kilometres a day. In thirty years from now, we will be travelling thousands of kilometres a day if this trend continues, and hundreds of thousands of kilometres in another thirty years. Where does that lead us? Are we all going to explore another galaxy?

Well, who knows? But according to Carlo van de Weijer, director Smart Mobility at Eindhoven University of Technology, it might be a better idea to take our wanderlust back to the drawing board. After all, it is now possible to stay at home, relax in your chair while you virtually explore the most bizarre new worlds. While you make the most unique trips; around Pluto, through the bloodstream of your partner or in a mathematical formula. Fantasize and design with us!
