VR installation Symbiosis

Unfortunately, MU will be closed for public till 20 April. Therefore, we have stopped the ticket sale. Those who have already bought a ticket will receive a personal message. Are you a professional with interest in the prototype of Symbiosis? Contact Marieke Nooren: marieke@polymorf.nl

The performative VR experience Symbiosis transports you 200 years into the future. To a post-human world that has been radically altered by climate change and in which Homo sapiens have been absorbed into a biotope teeming with mixed life-forms: human, animal, and technological hybrids. There is no competition, only symbiosis. The work is inspired by the ideas of biologist & philosopher Donna Haraway, in which humans play a decentralized role and coexist with other species.

How will such a speculative world affect future coexistence, legal rights and relationships between humans and all other living entities on a physical, emotional and spiritual level? In Symbiosis, the human body is being redesigned with VR, soft robotics, wearables and smell. The installation engages all your senses, including your taste buds. What does it feel like to leave your human perspective and live together as a genetically manipulated human or animal, plant or AI?

Symbiosis is created by the Dutch interdisciplinary and internationally operating experience design collective Polymorf. The installation was commissioned by STRP and Breda Photo, produced in collaboration with Studio Biarritz and made possible by: NL Film Fund, Creative Industries Fund NL and the Sundance Institute - New Frontier Story Lab program. Specially for Symbiosis, restaurant De Karpendonkse Hoeve created a food design.

Polymorf is an interdisciplinary and internationally operating, Dutch experience design collective. Polymorf creates fully embodied, multi-sensory experiences, using cutting-edge technologies. Their body of work consists of VR experiences, theatrical performances and installation pieces. Polymorf incorporates visceral meaning in their designs to reflect on the now, the (post-) human condition and the relationships between humans and technology.

The 2-person installation presented at MU is a preview of the larger project, which will premiere later at a time and location yet to be determined.
